SUBJECT – URGENT NEEDS!

Deer Creek Middle School Families –

We are needing double A batteries for the writers ASAP!

We have had a tremendous year!  As we near the close of school year; some IMMEDIATE NEEDS have been brought to our attention.

Due to Swine Flu precautions, we have completely depleted our stock of Bacterial Wipes.

These wipes are used daily in the office for the Infirmary.  Currently, every classroom is using them to wipe down everything as often as possible.  It would not be safe to ask the students to use spray bottles; therefore, wipes are the best solution.

On the last day when the students clean out their lockers; Bacterial Wipes are used by the students to clean out the lockers.  Teachers use the wipes to wipe down bookshelves etc. to close out the year.  We cannot have enough of these!  Simply send to school for your student to drop off in the office to be dispersed to all staff.

Additionally, we have shut down the water fountains temporarily.  We are giving the students paper cups to use and throw away through the office.  We could use more of those as well.  With the humidity, games being played in Gym class and spring heat; the kids are thirsty!

It has been brought to our attention that the DCMS Infirmary does not have a working thermometer.  Several times this year the office has purchased thermometers only to have them last a short while.  The School Nurse has recommended a Welch/Allen thermometer – the cost is $220.  If anyone works where they have these, knows where we can get one at a lower cost or has another idea; we need it!  Temperature is one of the main things we are checking frequently to prevent the spread of any illness.

Today, the PTO voted to purchase some of the electric pencil sharpeners that have been requested for each classroom.  Additionally, two families donated enough money to purchase a few more.  In order to place a pencil sharpener in each room, the cost would be $2800.  This would be a fantastic Teacher Appreciation gift for your teacher.  Each staff member requested one for their room.  You can purchase them at any office supply.  Sturdy/frequent-use sharpeners are recommended and cost between $40 and $60 on average.

Special Olympics is NEXT Wednesday.  They have been working hard all year with many fundraisers to raise enough money to take our 20 athletes to their sporting event in Stillwater.  There are 2 remaining needs:

1)       20 drawstring, (matching if possible) knapsack/backpacks

2)      First Aid Kit

Finally,  the teachers have an additional request.  We have run out of batteries for our portable word processors.

Each one requires 3/AA batteries.  The few that are left are low on battery and will not last until the end of the year.

We still have 2 ½ weeks left of instruction and tests.   To refill each one would take 200  batteries so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please remember that one box of wipes, one package of batteries – ALL ADD UP!  Not everyone can give the large or complete donations.  Together, we can provide for all of our needs.

We are winding down an incredible school year.  We couldn’t have done it without the support of our families at the Deer Creek Middle School!  Thank you for donating items as we have sent out the request.  Remember, it takes all of us to help make things be so successful for all of our kids.  YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

Thank you AGAIN to the Richison family for a cash donation to purchase items from the Creek Registry.

We continue to receive requests for electric pencil sharpeners.  If you see any on sale anywhere – pick up one – ever one we don’t have to purchase from our limited funds; allows us to purchase other items.

The staff again asked that I tell everyone thank you for the continued support.  They limit their requests to needed items only rather than a constant list of “wants”.  They do not ever want to take advantage of the generosity of our wonderful families in Deer Creek.    Thank you for those who continue to help in whatever way they can.

DCMS families:
Thank you so much for the response to some of our needs!  The Creek Registry will be updated as needed.
The Creek Registry is a list of “wishes” requested by the staff.
You can donate to DCMS by writing a check, put it in an envelope, then turn it in at the DCMS office labeled:
PTO Creek Registry Donation Attn. Mindy Blanchard.
The money will then be used to purchase items on lists at the advice of Mr. Perdue.  Families may go together to provide items.
Used items in good condition are also appreciated.
We appreciate any assistance.

Miss Tosh...…I am in desperate need of a pencil sharpener.  I am down to
two hand-held sharpeners, and they are both about to break.  My nice one that
I bought last year when I was hired pretty much just is a noise maker.  J
Thank you so much for all you do!!!

  • Andrea Carpenter needs 800 of the #2 pencils for school-wide testing in  one week!!!
The place that normally donates our pencils for State Testing is unable to do so this year.
We are in immediate need of 800 pencils – they have to be #2 lead.  Sharpened would be ideal.

  • Finally, we are still in need of electric pencil sharpeners for several classrooms.
