Following are the requirements for membership in the DCMS chapter of NJHS in August 2019. These were developed in accordance with the national organization and patterned to align with DCHS NHS. The Faculty Council and Principal approved the By-Laws (which outline these requirements) in August 2019.
1) Membership in this chapter is an honor bestowed upon deserving students by the faculty and shall be based on the criteria of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.
2) Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be a 7th or 8th grade student at DCMS.
3) The student must have been enrolled the previous two semesters at DCIS (7th graders) or DCMS (8th graders).
4) Students eligible for election to the chapter must have a minimum grade point average of 3.85 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters at DCIS (7th graders) or DCMS (8th graders).
If selected for membership, students must complete the following (no exceptions):
1) Complete an application and essay by Friday, August 30.
2) Attend (student only) ONE Student Introductory Meeting.
3) Bring $15 dues to the Student Introductory Meeting.
4) Attend the Induction Ceremony (unless student has a activity conflict), if a new member.
5) Attend the meeting once a month. There are three choices each month (two morning and one after school). The student should attend the meeting that is most convenient for him.
6) Participate in at least TWO of the NJHS organized service projects (Group Projects) by mid-April.
7) Participate in at least FIVE hours individual service project(s) and turn in the hours in the same semester they are completed by mid-April.
8) Stay in good standing at DCMS.
